Meet Our Team
The people behind the mission

Kip Nelson
Founder & Executive Director
Kip Nelson serves as AVL Director at Legacy Christian Church and has been a pastor for nearly 35 years. He’s also the Lead Chaplain for the Lee’s Summit, MO Police Department, serves on Peer Support, and sits on the board of directors for FRST Midwest. He’s the founder of Heroes at Home International, which serves first responders by helping build and strengthen marriages and families.
Kip has been married to his wife Catherine for 34 years. They have three adult children and two grandchildren.

Jim Green
President
Jim retired as a Captain from the Lee’s Summit, Missouri Police Department in 2021 after 36 years of service. He holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Kansas and is a graduate of the Northeastern University of Police and Command and the FBI National Academy.
Jim has held leadership roles including President of the Missouri Peace Officer Association and the International Society of Crime Prevention Practitioners. He also served on the Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation and volunteered in security at Abundant Life church for over 25 years.
He has been married for over 37 years, has 3 married children, and 5 grandchildren.

Kim Shirley-Williams
Vice President
Kimberly (Kim) Shirley-Williams works for the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department Wellness Section as a Wellness Specialist / Peer Support Team Coordinator. Kim retired in 2025 as a Master Detective after completing 28 years of service with KCPD.
Her assignments included 911 Call Taker, Dispatcher, Patrol Officer at Metro Patrol, Sex Crimes, Robbery, FBI Child Exploitation Task Force, FBI Cyber Task Force, and the Financial Investigations Section / IRS Strike Force Task Force. Kim is Crisis Intervention Officer certified and served 14 years on the Crisis Negotiations Team.
Kim has been active in Peer Support for over 10 years, supporting first responders across the KC Metro through debriefs, peer contacts, resource referrals, and collaboration with clinical providers.
Kim is the mother of three adult children and enjoys time with her family, being outside, and traveling.
